Greek Myth: Fanfic: where the water waits

Title: where the water waits
Fandom: Greek Mythology
Rating: General Audiences
Length: 197
Pairing: Hades/Persephone
Summary: All parties need not be consulted.

The maiden of green, growing things enters the chamber, once empty, that was given to be her, to find fruit piled high on table, plump and fresh, resplendent and alive in the echoless gloom.

She speaks, knowing that Hades will hear her words, though he is not visible. The dark series of caves and halls is his domain, the caverns where not even her mother’s roots can reach. He would hear her from the breadth of a world away, in this place. “Your bargain is already struck."

The presence coalesces, reveals itself at her back. Close enough to feel, far enough to not be entirely improper. Looming above her, like the hollows forgotten rivers wear through stone. "With your mother, and my brother-king, did I make my bargain. Not with you.”

Persephone, once Kore, does not sigh as she settles into stone seat, tilting her eyes to meet that hidden gaze. The accord is struck, and will be upheld. That her voice is heard at all in it is a gift, but if he means to win her, she will make him work for the pleasure. “Half a year you have won, to make case with me.”

Love it! Especially the line if he means to win her, she will make him work for the pleasure.

Thanks! I figured she deserved a little agency. As a treat. <]:)

I love this. You capture the gravitas of these mythological characters in a way that has me a bit awestruck with the weight of time and how long humanity has been telling their stories. I feel like it's missing in a lot of modern retellings and you've nailed it. Well done.

Thanks! I have absolutely no idea how I did it. :) If you enjoy being hit over the head with humans and the scale of their storytelling - are you familiar with the seven sisters? The star cluster so named back when we could still see seven of the stars with the naked eye, rather than the six we can make out today? (Unless you're cheating and using a telescope, in which case the count increases quite a bit.)
