Rating: G
Length: 437 words
Summary:
Should you trust an unknown dog?  Probably not when it's a member of Section D. [Werewolf!Lucas 'verse]

“Harry Pearce, how delightful to see you,” the man gushed.  “And who is this handsome beast?”

“This,” Harry indicated the large dog, padding obediently beside him, grimacing as he did so.  “Is Ambrose.  Not mine, I hasten to add, I’m just taking care of him for a friend.”

The dog panted enthusiastically, its tongue lolling out of the side of its mouth.

“Do come over and let me introduce you to Petronella.  She adores dogs and would be quite disappointed if she didn’t meet Ambrose.”

They walked across the lawn to where a group where sitting, drinking cocktails.  Introductions were made and the dog soon made itself the centre of attention, accepting the titbits it was offered.

After a while, one of the men said, “Harry, I don’t suppose I could have a word with you in private.  There’s a bit of difficult situation I wouldn’t mind your advice on.”

Harry nodded and started to walk away from the group, calling to the dog to follow him.

“Leave Ambrose with us,” Petronella said.  “I’m sure he won’t be any problem.”

Harry walked round the grounds with the man before they returned to join the group.  As he approached, Ambrose stood up.

“Eaten everything in sight?” Harry asked.  “In which case, I’ll take you back to the car, so you can sleep it off.”

The dog loped off, Harry following behind.  Once well out of sight, they changed direction and made for a small gate in the hedge.  Outside the gate a van was parked.  As they approached a door of the van opened and Tariq and Adam stepped down.

“Did it work?” Harry asked.

“Really well,” Tariq said.  “We’ll have to edit the tape a bit, but then we’ll have sufficient evidence to convict them all.”

“Why will it need editing?” Harry snapped.

“I think you’d prefer that we lost all the ‘who’s a good doggy then?’ and other similar comments.”

The dog, or werewolf, to be entirely accurate, smirked.

“It’s worked so well,” Adam added, “that Ros wondered whether you’d like to take him to other meetings.”

Harry glared at them.  “Please inform Ms Myers that if she wants to take a large hound wearing a ridiculous bandana to a meeting, she is very welcome to do so.  The less I have to do so, the better.”

“The bandana served very well to obscure any sign of the microphone in his collar.  And it’s his favourite bandana.  Just be grateful he didn’t insist on wearing the orange one!”

Harry glared at them again, turned and walked down the road to where his own car was parked.
