The title comes from a quote by Hayley Mills: "I always say a tremendous amount of healing is in your own hands."
Summary: Sometimes Katara takes her skills for granted.

~*~

After acting independently for years Katara finds it strange to meet an adult who is so obviously interested in her and what she does. Especially since, to her, the healing she can do is a small and less useful part of her waterbending. It’s got nothing at all to do with the fact that healing is so obviously considered a ‘girly’ skill in the Northern Water Tribe, not at all.

Still, the awe and longing in Martha’s face when she demonstrates her healing makes her realise the rarity of such a skill, and that she should be proud of it.

This is great. I've always sort of felt that Katara undervalued her ability to heal somewhat, so It's nice to see a piece where she realizes that it really is an awesome ability.

Thank you!

I figured Martha would just about die with envy if she met an actual healer, her being a doctor and all. :~D

In the series Katara is usually in situations where offensive powers are more useful, but I don't think it's crossed her mind how much worse off they'd be if she couldn't heal.
