Summary: Alpine deigns to share the couch with Lucky for a nap.



Alpine stalked across the room and glared at the creature on the couch. Dogs weren't allowed on the furniture. He knew this, but as a dog, he was prone to selective forgetfulness.
She considered hissing, but lowering herself like that for a dog, was beneath her. She was a cat after all.

She gracefully jumped onto the couch. The dog - Lucky was what the humans called him, lifted an ear but didn't get the hint. Alpine began to knead the cushion beside him and still, the dog didn't move. She circled twice before laying down, pushing Lucky with her body but still the dog didn't move. She curled up beside him and closed her eyes. The dog was warm, at least.

She drifted in a shallow half-sleep for a while, listening to the quiet noises of her home. The humans moved about the house, their voices soft and measured. After a while, she felt eyes on her. Alpine blinked. Her human was watching her. Silently staring. His stance was relaxed. There was nothing amiss. She glared at him and flicked her tail twice. She was not to be disturbed.

Lucky's human appeared next to hers. Compared to hers, he was clumsy and made too much noise when he moved. Much like his dog, he was pitiful. She still wasn't getting up.

Alpine closed her eyes and listened to the humans. They were discussing something. Obviously, it was about her. She would not be moved. Despite the dog's presence, she was comfortable.

Lucky wagged his tail, almost hitting her. Alpine shifted further away from the offending appendage and curled into a tighter ball. The dog nuzzled at her ears with his wet nose. How undignified! The humans made rumbling noises, amused at her expense. She opened her eyes and glared at them one more time before turning her back on them, closing her eyes, and drifting off to sleep.
