The title is taken from the first line of John Masefield's Sea-Fever The whole poem applies. Some inspiration taken from High Flight by John Gillespie Magee.
Summary: Sky and sea both beckon to Earendil.

The vast and empty sky beckoned as the sea once had, dim and glimmering, a veil over depths that cried out with every flicker, every gleam, every wisp of mist and fleeting shadow to be crossed, to be fathomed, to be sailed. What lay beyond? What terror or beauty, what peril or pleasance, what weal or woe or aid?

He and his crew, with Elwing and Silmaril had crossed the Belegaer; now the sky called out for Vingilot, for the star that was a Silmaril, for Earendil and Elwing and the rest of the crew; a voyage no less perilous.
