I wonder if you ever realized I knew the moment we met that you were dangerous. I should have turned around and run the other way. I didn’t, because I have a self-destructive streak a mile wide. We both do. That was the attraction, wasn’t it?

We recognized something in each other. Our mutual PTSD, dysfunction, guilt, and shame were magnets pulling us together. A force of nature.

After almost destroying the world (I forgave you, done it a time or two myself), you returned to being the polite, super-efficient, perfectly pressed suits, serving your fabulous coffee. Ah, but those hidden depths a person can drown in! So yeah, the package was irresistible, but what was underneath was the real attraction. Naturally, you tried to kill me the first chance you got. All that passion… few people ever saw… wow… but I digress. Kill me, save me, kiss me, then ask for one night. Any sane person would have turned you down. I couldn’t have if I’d tried.

So yeah, I knew you were trouble. It was a bad idea, we were terrible for each other…

Then it changed and you became dangerous in a totally different way. You were warmth, and comfort, and support. Understanding and… loyalty, devotion, all those things I don’t deserve. There was a promise in your eyes and touch that I knew would break me. My heart cracked open little by little.

…And then it shattered.
