The village of Ambleshire (which was, despite the name, a small village and not a shire) had a problem.

Oh, not the Goose – the Goose was the problem when it came to village life, not to be reduced to a single entity among a multitude of petty annoyances – but it was also, in a sense, actually the Goose. Most things were, in Ambleshire.

Specifically, goose signage. The demand for it never really went away, and round about the third month of the year, the town hall's budget ran out
of paint. Made do with chalk - the local primary school made a project of it - but that didn't last long either, between the damp if rain and attention spans of six year olds. The barrel dry, the next town meeting looked at perhaps diverting funds - but no one wanted less cakes, soups or sandwiches at the next fair, so word of mouth it was to be.
