Author notes: I always thought we were robbed by not having an Elliot hallucinating Olivia scene in Solitary so I wrote one. Granted, they never would have done this in canon.
Summary: While locked up in solitary confinement, Elliot hears his partner.



He’s not sure how long he’s been in here for, but Elliot was positive it had to be more than the three days he’d asked them to. He was going to have some strong words with the guard when he let him out.

”Elliot.”

It was quiet but Elliot would know that voice anywhere.

“Liv?”

”Elliot,” he heard her call again.

“Liv, where are you?”

”I need you,”

“Liv,” he croaked out, not sure of what else to say.

”I need you, El.”

Part of Elliot knew that Olivia was not really there, but so much time alone had begun to warp his mind. Much to his chagrin, he was really starting to understand Donovan.

“I’m sorry Liv,” he replied.

“Why don’t you want me?”

Elliot didn’t usually cry. His father’s had quite literally beaten him out of it. However, the situation he had put himself in was quickly changing that.

“I do,” he choked out, “I always want you.”

”Why’d you sleep with Kathy then?”

Elliot shook his head, trying to collect his thoughts. He knew this wasn’t real. The real Olivia would never ask that. Still, Elliot had seen the twinges of hurt in her expression when he’d told her about Kathy’s pregnancy. He felt he owed her an explanation.

“I -“

Elliot had started to say it had been a mistake, but no matter how jumbled his brain had become, he could never think of his youngest child as a mistake.

“I don’t know,” was the answer he settled for.

”It should have been me.

“I wish it had been,” he confessed, his voice no more than a whisper.

”Do you love me?”

“Of course I do,” admitted Elliot, “How could I not?”

Elliot knew that Olivia wasn’t really there, and he knew that if she was actually there, he would not have said any of this. Somehow knowing that Olivia wasn’t actually hearing this made it so much easier for him to confess to her.

”Then why?”

“Because I’m a coward,” he replied, “I can’t lose you. Not as a partner, not as anything. And that scares the shit out of me.”

”I love you, El.”

He broke down completely at that point. It was a complete fabrication in his mind, but hearing those words in Olivia’s voice just shattered him.

“I love you too,” he whispered, before the sobs took over and he cried himself to sleep.
