Content notes: Spoilers for the Star Trek: Picard season 2 trailers as well as major spoilers for the Star Trek reboot novels but mostly the Coda trilogy.
Author notes: I’ve been speculating that Picard season 2 will bring up the novel universe somehow and so this is a little drabble based on that.
Summary: Picard won’t let their bravery go to waste.



He kissed his wife for the last time.

And he pressed the trigger.

Picard closed the old book and wept.

He wept for his alternate self, a man who had the happiness Picard knew that he had always dreamed of. He wept for the son he never had and never truly imagined, but he had felt the loss just as deeply as his alternative self. He wept for Beverly, for Will, for Data and Lal, for an entire universe who had given their lives to protect his own.

He admired their bravery and wept for their sacrifice. It appeared it might have all been in vain.

The Devidians were going to attempt another Temporal Apocalypse. That was why Q had sent Picard and the rest of his crew back in time. That was why Q had given him the book to read. He needed to know what had happened to try and prevent it from happening again.

He would make sure of it.
