Dany was a baby when they had fled Dragonstone on the last remaining ship of the loyal fleet - had never so much as set eyes on the mainland before they'd reached Essos. She'd been tiny, then: small enough that Viserys could hold her in one arm while she slept, soft and sweet and all bundled up in every spare blanket that they had taken with them from the castle.

Years have passed and the seasons turned since then.

Daenerys is growing. Her clothes are not. Nor are her shoes. It was alright when Ser Darry was with them – he had hired staff to work in the small house with the yellow door, staff who had gone out into the markets and bought clothes fit for a young lady, even if they weren’t near good enough for a princess of House Targaryen to wear. When he died, the staff went away with him, and with them the coin that was supposed to be used to pay for their food and their teachers, Viserys's weapons and Dany's treats, and they kept growing, the both of them. He is better off, can go without a shirt when it grows too full of holes, but Dany is a princess. A girl.

Viserys had not been able to take much, when they were thrown out of the empty house. There had not been much to take. Nothing but their mother's jewels, which he had not allowed to leave his reach since they passed from her hands to his. They are all he has left of her, but Dany - Dany is all he has left. He picks out the smallest ring, and turns to find the merchant stalls. They need food, and Dany need clothing.
