"Seven foot frame; rats along his back. When he calls your name it all fades to black. Yeah he sees your dreams and feasts on your screams. Oof—"

Dolores quickly jabbed her elbow into her brother's arm.

"What?" Camillo changed, quickly switching back to his own face.

"Seven feet tall? Tío Bruno was shorter than Mamá and Tía Julieta!" she scolded.

"Uh…"

"Besides, you're barely two months older than Mirabel," Dolores scolded. "You don't know anything more about Tío Bruno than her; you're just making up things based on the town's stories. And there were no rats back then."

Something was off about her phrasing, but Mirabel couldn't quite place it.

"Aw, Dolores," Camillo complained.

"No," she said sharply. "None of this 'feasts on your screams' nonsense. You know better to repeat that kind of thing about Tío Bruno. You might not see him right now, but he's still a part of our family. Have you been saying that kind of thing to Toñito or the kids in town?"

Camillo looked guilty for a moment, then quickly disguised it. Dolores caught it, though. "Ay!" she sighed, then grabbed him by the ear and dragged him away.

Mirabel watched them go, bemused. Her own fuzzy memories of Tío Bruno had been of someone who lurked around the edge of gatherings, and didn't say much. But that was far preferable to some kind of seven foot tall demon man who delighted in people's suffering. Still, it looked like she was going to have to look elsewhere for more information about Tío Bruno.
