“Who wants cake?” Ryo asked, carrying the Christmas cake he’d made and decorated into the lounge and setting it on the coffee table.

Dee stirred from his post-dinner stupor; he was supposedly watching the football game on TV, but right at that moment he couldn’t have said which team had the ball, or what the score was. He suspected he may have nodded off for a bit.

“Cake? Are you serious?” He had a healthy appetite, but even he had his limits. “We just finished a huge dinner!”

“That was three hours ago, Dee.” Ryo was grinning.

“Tell that to my stomach. I’m still stuffed, probably won’t want anything else until tomorrow.”

“And whose fault is that? Two helpings of Christmas pudding, AND mince pies.”

“Your fault, definitely.” Dee’s answering grin was lazy and bordering on smug. “You’re too good a cook, and you made enough to feed an army.”

“Never thought I’d see the day you’d turn down food,” Ryo teased.

“Not turnin’ it down, I’m just sayin’ it’ll keep until tomorrow.”

“If we don’t eat it all first. Bikky? Carol? Elena?”

“I couldn’t eat another bite, Ryo,” Carol’s aunt said with a smile. “But when you do cut it, I’d love a slice to take home with me later. It looks wonderful.”

The whole cake was covered in white frosting like snow-covered ground, with tiny artificial trees, and snowmen made of sugar paste.

“Yeah,” Bikky agreed. “It’s amazing, but I’ll pass for now. Maybe I’ll have room for a slice in a few hours.”

“It’s a shame to spoil it by cutting it,” Carol said. “And anyway, I’m not hungry right now either. Why don’t we just sit here and admire it?”

Ryo set the knife down beside the cake and flopped onto the sofa beside Dee.

“You’re not havin’ a slice?” Dee asked, draping one arm around his lover.

“To be honest, I’m still full too.”

“But you were willin’ to serve us?”

“I was just trying to be a good host.”

Dee snorted. “You’ve been an awesome host, you can tell ‘cause we’re all way too stuffed to move. All we wanna do is sit here, watch the game, and nap.”

“Sounds good, but I should wash the dishes.”

“Nah, you don’t wanna do that; they’re soakin’. Tell ya what, when the game’s over, I’ll wash and Biks can dry. You’ve done enough.”

“It’s a deal.”

The End

Sounds like a lovely day and a wonderful meal. I can just picture the cake and I would not want to cut it either.

I'm sure it will be very tasty and much enjoyed when it does eventually get cut though.

Thank you!
