Summary: On the Last Battle, the Dagor Dagorath, in 8 alliterative triplet verses.

What sky, what moon, what setting sun
That makes a fond remembrance
Of the cloudless, starless, void-spun Dark?

-- Red-stained bodies piling higher
Blue-white bodies slipping under
Black-burnt bodies tumbled over --

All ash and golden, molten air
A blinding brightness thieving sight
Conflagration all consuming

Grain and grassland, flax and flower
Rick and cot, flock and field and tree
Smoke shadowed, wreathed and reaved in flame

O drag the dust for what remains
Of foe, of friend, of banner bright
Now torn and trampled, harrowed hope

What bloodied battlefield is this?
What armies met to desperate try
Their skill and sinew 'gainst the foe?

Tis every one in every age
Before the Moon arose to light
The Noldor fighting doom foretold

To this last rising of the sun
On blackened wave and arid earth:
The Dagor Dagorath hath come.
