Title: Come Help Me Bury This, Mentor
Fandom: Bloodbound (visual novels)
Rating: Gen
Length: 247
Content notes: Accidental off-screen animal death
Author notes: No spoilers. Set sometime in Book 3 after the main character returns to life.
Summary: "You know Kamilah isn't going to let you back into the apartment after this. Again." .. "I know."

Anna stands by the newly made hole, glancing between it and the dry husk of a young bear that she had accidentally mistaken for an enemy, wondering if the hole she’d just dug was big enough. The bear itself was large enough that it would take her a while to push into the hole by herself.

Not that she couldn’t do it by herself, her vampiric strength has grown since those first months after Kamilah had Turned her, but it would still be nasty, smelly work, and Kamilah was very likely not going to let her back into their apartment until she stopped smelling of dead bear. Again.

“Do I want to know?”

Twisting around quickly, she turns to watch as Adrian, her other mentor in Vampire Life, walks out of the shadows of a clump of trees, raising an eyebrow at the sight in front of him. She could easily read the ‘why me?’ in his expression without sensing the amused, if slightly aggravated thoughts that he deliberately wasn’t shielding from her.

“Probably not? But I really didn’t mean to kill it. Will you help me get it into the hole?”

He glances at the carcass to the hole that she’d dug before sighing as he removes his coat and moves to join her.

“You know Kamilah is going to ground you from the apartment. Again.”

She pouts at him as the man studiously ignores it and focuses his attention towards their current task.

“I know.”

^^This especially is an excellent detail. The canon focuses so much on big drama/action that we don't get enough of this kind of characterization.

Thanks! Yeah, the drama/action plots for the books were neat, but I definitely wished that we had gotten more characterization for the characters aside from their respective dramatics.
