The ship drops back into cruising velocity, and they, who have all spent month living the hum of engines, feel them die. Cruising speed kicks in, but it's not the same. Nowhere near the same. Last legs, last days. They're nearing the end of projected tolerances.

They're coasting in, running checks on the weapons, on the fighters. On the MD device, most of all. The last of the good rations are cracked open.

It's a matter of days now. The distant star begins to grow.
