"Yes, Zola? What is it?"

“Why are there signs at the hospital that say magic isn’t allowed there?”

Of all the questions, Meredith had expected to be asked by a certain growing mischief-making child aka her child - who was still growing into her powers she mentally reminded herself-, that was not one of them. She could practically hear Addison’s eyebrow moving towards her hairline, the belatedly choked snicker from Cristina, and sees that not so innocent looks of confusion on Izzie’s and George’s face.

She glanced up to see the question in Alex’s eyes as he left a patient room that was ‘do you want me to handle this one for you?’ and shook her head at him slightly, scowling when he grinned at her.

“Healing magic is allowed on the hospital grounds, but most of the other forms aren't, especially when magic users get emotional during a crisis. Mundane equipment is highly sensitive to magical energy fields in general, so we have to be careful how much exposure we have when we are near them. I hope that you weren’t causing mischief, Zola?”

Zola giggled, shaking her head. “No, not me. But I saw some other kid conjure ghosts to make their friend happy again. Was that bad of them?”

“...”

Addison sighs loudly.

“Someone let the Chief know that there are rogue ghosts somewhere in the hospital.”

Meredith snorted and glanced at Addison with a small smile on her face as her partner moved to stand next to her and squeezed her hand as their friends began to look up the protocol for ghosts visiting the hospital.

“At least you’re glad that it wasn’t our kid this time, right?”

“Thank goodness for that.”
