Summary: Some problems are bigger, and more immediate, than others.

It's not that it doesn't register. It does, for the record. Big jeep, buckets of black smoke, a whole lot of equipment that they're going to have to do without. Chloe sees it.

(And smells it, and hears the popping of stressed metal and plastic exceeding engineering tolerances, and would probably taste it too, if she wasn't still swallowing blood.)

(She also sees the rain doing it's best to put it out, because it's hard not to, being right in her face and under her jacket and seeping through her boots and all.)

But she's got bigger issues. Potential stranding in the Ghats can wait for after. Getting ill can wait till after that.

Issues like a missing partner and an army of mercenaries on the lookout for them both. An angry partner who's got (mostly) the wrong idea about her intentions and a demonstrated willingness to punch first and ask questions later. Which is not a good combination with a mercenary army out to kill them both. And not when they're meant to be scrambling on their way to the Tusk, one step ahead of the opposition. But that's a problem for when she has a partner at her back. The only problem Chloe has now is finding her.

The rest can wait their turn.
