Ryo hummed cheerfully to himself as he bustled around the kitchen, preparing dinner. He’d always enjoyed cooking, but it was an even greater pleasure these days, now he had two eager mouths to feed. Cooking for appreciative people was far more fulfilling than only cooking for himself.

Bikky was in the lounge, getting on with his homework, Dee would be arriving in a little while having had some errands to run for Mother after work, and then they’d all sit down to a home cooked meal, just like a family.

‘My family,’ Ryo thought as he checked the pot roast in the oven. ‘My son and my lover.’ Despite the frequent arguments between Dee and Bikky, spending time with his boy and his man never failed to give him a warm glow inside. They filled the empty place left by his parents’ deaths.

Dinner was almost ready by the time Dee arrived, sniffing the air and stalking into the kitchen to grab Ryo and plant a kiss on him that made his knees go weak.

“Man, that smells good! So do you, babe,” he added, nuzzling Ryo’s neck, inhaling the scent of his lover’s warm skin, redolent of his usual vanilla-scented shower gel.

“Dee!” Ryo squirmed out of his partner’s grip. “Later! Dinner’s about ready, so if you want to eat you’ll have to keep your hands to yourself. Either that or help me dish up.”

“Do I get to carve the roast?”

“If you want. Just try not to cut such thick slices this time.”

“I like somethin’ I can get my teeth into!”

“I’ve noticed. I prefer something I can get my mouth around.”

Dee leered and Ryo blushed. “You know what I meant.”

“Fine, I’ll cut yours thinner, but I reserve the right to cut mine the way I like it.”

“Carnivore.”

“Hey, I’m just a meat-lovin’ guy.” Dee winked and Ryo’s blush deepened.

“Behave yourself.”

“I thought I was.”

“Bikky, dinner!”

“Coming, Ryo.”

Dee turned away from the sink where he’d been washing his hands. “Right, let’s eat. I’m starving!”

‘Like feeding time at the zoo,’ Ryo thought as he and Dee dished up the meal and the three of them sat down to eat. Some people’s table manners could stand improvement, Bikky tended to shovel food into his mouth like there was no tomorrow, but Ryo was always happy to see his culinary efforts appreciated.

The End
