"Lucille, is what Sister Frances tells me true?” Trixie said, as she burst into the room.

“It depends what Sister Frances has told you,” Lucile replied smiling.

“That you’re getting married soon.”

“Yes, that’s true.  At Christmas.”

“But why?  Not why are you getting married, but why so soon?  I thought you were planning on saving up.”

“We were, but then Cyril’s grandfather died, and it brought home to him, and me, that we would be saving for a long time before we could get married at home, even if we could agree whether it was his home in British Guyana or mine in Jamaica, and that perhaps it would be better to get married here, which is where we’ve begun our life together and where we now belong.”

“But what about your family?”

“We can send them photos.  And we have new family now, with our church and with all of you at Nonnatus House.  It won’t be the same, but things don’t stay the same forever, so better that we accept how it is and enjoy it.  One thing I can be sure of – there will still be plenty of celebrations at our wedding wherever we hold it.”
