Summary: Palantir, phone or not?

Did a palantir equate to a telephone? Maglor pondered the sphere in his hands, perfectly palm sized, silvery-iridescent rather than swirling starry black. A friendlier aesthetic, he thought. Also less obvious. The energy of it made his fingers tingle. No doubt that it would work, though where or what — or whom — it would show first certainly was a question. One could speak through it, see and send images, but did that make it a telephone? It depended on what one meant by phone, he supposed. An old-style voice phone, yes. Smartphone, not really. Still he was glad to have it.
