A/N: Triple drabble.



Picking up the photo frame, Ryo paused in his packing and sank down on the sofa. He studied the image, a studio photograph that Dee had arranged for, and likely paid for too since Bikky must have used his allowance to buy the frame. Not that it was anything expensive, just plain wood, stained black, but it set off the picture well.

Bikky had been so young when the photo was taken, ten years old and smiling his widest smile. His hair was tied back nearly, he was wearing his favourite t-shirt, and he looked like he might burst from pride, or happiness, or something less definable.

For several years the photo in its frame had sat on Ryo’s desk at the precinct, but then Ryo had switched it for a more recent picture, and then another, and another… Bikky had grown so fast it had been difficult to keep pace.

All those past photographs, except for the most recent, were on display around the apartment, though not for much longer. In a couple of weeks Ryo would be moving in with Dee, but hopefully Dee wouldn’t mind having a couple of pictures of Bikky on display. He knew how much the boy meant to Ryo.

Tracing the child’s face in the photograph, Ryo smiled wistfully. The small, vulnerable boy no longer existed; Bikky was almost a man now, and taller than Dee. He was also at the other end of the country, just starting his first term in college. It would be months before Ryo saw him again. Maybe he’d come home for Thanksgiving if he wasn’t too busy training. He was on a basketball scholarship so that had to take precedence.

Sighing, Ryo stood and carefully wrapped the picture for packing, praying that his boy would be okay.
