Summary: Wanda tries to be okay with the compromise she made to have Vision back.
Wanda wills the sun to remain asleep, tucked deep beneath the covers of the comforting black night. But she knows, like every day, that the sun needs to rise and the night needs to set.
She sits on a swing, her bare feet brushing against the skin of the dirt. Her heels are dirty, as they always are. She hardly cares. Gripping the chains of the swing, she keeps her gaze on the horizon as she’s gently pushed.
When she’s pushed a little too hard, she smiles at the innocent "Oops" she hears from behind her. Vision has learned to stop apologising; it takes up too much space, too much time. They have a character limit that they need to abide by that starts as soon as the sun sets and the night rises and concludes once the night disappears and the sun comes to. There’s no time to waste with frivolous apologies for moments Wanda treasures.
She glances up and spies his red fingers gently tugging at the seat’s chains. "Was that too hard?"
Wanda shakes her head. "No." Glancing over her shoulder, she smiles up at him. His Vibranium skin is bright red, so deep and comforting she wants to lean back into him. If she does, she knows he’ll be solid and unwavering as she remembers him to be.
Vision stands too close, too afraid of losing her. His pushes have become gentle as he’s grown comfortable with being here once more. The back of her head brushes against his torso. When he smiles down at her, she looks ahead at the deep orange bleeding into the cooling night. She wills it to remain dark, but even the night sky defies her.
He sighs quietly. "It’s time, isn’t it?"
Biting at her lips, she clears her throat.
"He’ll be back," Vision concludes. He continues to push her gently on the swing as the sun begins its climb. Then, quietly, he asks, "Will I?"
Her brows furrow tightly. She drops her feet into the dirt to stop the swing. Gripping the chains tightly, she twists in her saddle to face him. "Yes," she says, staring up at him. "I’ll be here, waiting for you."
He smiles, ducking his head shyly. "I wouldn’t wish to keep you waiting."
"No," she smiles kindly. "You won’t."
At the nod of his head, she lifts her feet from the ground as he continues to push her. The sun stretches warmly across the horizon. She closes her eyes against the brightness, concentrating on the push of the chains above her hands. It remains and lingers for moments until she feels the chains grow slack.
When she peers over her shoulder, Vision is gone. The dirt’s scuffed from where he once stood.
Sighing sadly, Wanda presses her feet into the ground. She doesn’t pick up her shoes. They swing in the gentle hand of White Vision.
"Hello, Wanda," he says with a small smile.
Wanda gracefully accepts her shoes from his fingertips. "Hi, Vision."
