On some odd, hardly memorable day, Ky gazed upon a cluster of stars, scolded himself for dwelling when pressing matters ought to be attended to, and left the view for darker pastures. Before focusing on work, he'd distantly thought of the things he'd never touch --- such as the sun, Sol, and such things wreathed in flames and kindling like candles in the dark light.

Funny how Sol meant 'the sun.' Funny, how sullen Sol carried himself, and how bright Ky saw Sol like he was bathed in sunlight and glowing like a star. And to the young Commander, he was. Sol was a distant dream and a buried nightmare, one never kept for long and stowed in the front of his boxers and the back of his mind.

The next day, Ky led an expedition to Gear-destroyed lands to assist victims of the slaughter, air swirling ash and dust too thick for makeshift masks and filters. Ky watched the horizon line fade into different colors and never thought of the man who'd swindled the Fireseal. Ky did what he could and left the thoughts in their little box to fester.

They rotted. Ky never entertained the idea of having Sol. All of him, all his miserable dwelling, all his sorry-for-himself feelings, all his grins and throaty laughs that made Ky hotter than he'd begrudgingly admit --- Ky never imagined he'd see the sides of Sol Badguy kept behind lock and key. Ky never thought he'd love him either.

But gazing at horizons was different from venturing to the line. Black-tech rockets touched the moon. Sunlight reached the earth, eventually.

With struggle and struggle, time brought Sol back to him, and Ky touched the stars.
