Summary: This afternoon's walk along the side of the canal

The walk along the bank shows me so much
Of nature’s wonders and her greenery,
The trees whose mirror almost seem to touch
And enhance the beauty of the scenery.



The duck who swims with ducklings of two hues
All cheeping as they hunt through reeds for food,
The swan and cygnets who down water cruise
All eight surviving, a most healthy brood.



And diving moorhen, yellow butterfly,
Purple flowers, brown sparrows hidden under,
Blue waters reflecting back a bright blue sky,
All add to an afternoon of wonder.



And wonder too will those whose dismal plight
Finds canoe, bad tied, has drifted out of sight.
