Summary: For Lucas there's either too much or too little.

Lucas North sat at the back of the room, trying to process all that was being said during the meeting.  There were so many people and so many questions that he was starting to feel overwhelmed.  Ros called him over to speak to one of their counterparts from the CIA, and he tried to concentrate on what he was being asked, blanking out the extraneous voices, but it was hard.  Then they moved to the buffet, where he filled his plate with the nearest items before retreating into a far corner, longing for the earliest opportunity to make his escape.

Once back in his own flat he revelled in the silence, but that too soon became oppressive.  He longed for one person, just one friendly voice he could communicate with.  He thought about going back out to a pub or the theatre, but that would again be too loud.  He stayed where he was, the silence allowing his own memories to resurface and take hold of him.  He hated what he had become: someone at ease neither with others nor by himself.  In the silence he prepared for bed, and another day of oscillating between too much and too little.
