Summary: Zatanna is the last thing that keeps the building from crumbling around them.



The building is crumbling around them, a thunderstorm of magic and Zatanna screams her recersemagic into the maelstrom. “Dloh!” she shouts, forcing out each letter as a sound inscribed with the will to make the walls obey. The spell that has shattered the foundations of the building lashes back, tries to force her to give up - but the walls hold, despite cracks from floors to ceilings, despite concrete dust lingering in the air.

“Zatanna!” Diana is carrying a woman and her child towards a huge gap in the walls to Zatanna’s left. “We need to go! These are the last ones.”

“Go!” she calls to her, and Diana nods, but says: “Make sure you’re right behind me.”

“Not that easy,” she says. She can’t hold two spells at a time when losing concentration will mean the building will give out before she can reverse magic herself out. She can’t explain it in a short second, can’t think her way out while Circe’s magic tries to push through her defenses, to take her down with these crumbling walls…

“Dloh!” she repeats, while the floor shakes beneath her feet and the building holds - but keeps her trapped in this magic stand-off.

How to get out?

She finds no answer - but with a pop, from nothing a door appears and opens, a hand slides out and grabs her.

“Zee, we need to go.”

She grins, orders “Dloh!” one more time and lets John call her through the door into the House of Mystery. Her spell holds long enough for the door to close, the building reduced to nothing, but she’s no longer there - she’s with John, somewhere between realities, outside all dimensions, in this house he won in a card game.

“Thanks,” she says. “Get me to our team.”

“Walk out the front door,” he says gruffly.

She just kisses him.
