Glass is not an element
Like silicon or gold
Nor like earth and fire
Though both kinds it contains
As Incandescent sand

'Tis an element of Art
Of architecture, use
Made to display, reveal
By skilled and careful hands
Mirrors, lenses, lights

Or, Lightning-struck, volcanic,
Black tears, fantastic forms
Like fierce, enduring ice
Glass elementally made
Edges shattered sharp

Glass might elements present:
Garnet fire, golden air
Blue water, Emerald earth,
Ilmen's rainbowed wheel
Wonder thus show forth

O glass is also crystal
Silima may enfold
Incorporate to shine
As beacons, lamps, trees, stars --
Brighter than the sun
As Silmarils
