Summary:
Ray sat on the bed after finally deciding on which pants to wear to the Twenty-Seventh’s New Year’s Eve big bash. He sat to put on his socks while talking to Ben.
Ben was finishing buttoning up his blue shirt; it was the kind of blue that brought out his eyes.
Should I really find the shirt Ben is wearing sexy, seeing as his mother had bought it for him? Ray thought to himself.
Ray lifted one foot up to put on his sock while talking. “So Ben, you looking forward to tonight?”
Turning to face Ray, Ben smiled. “I am actually. It will be nice to catch up with everyone and celebrate the year gone by.”
Ray let out a, “Psst yeah, everyone,” and lifted the other foot, but he lost his balance and rolled off the other side of the bed, landing with an, “oof,” and a startled squeak.
Running around to where Ray had landed, Ben looked down at the startled man who was still holding on to his sock. Ben asked him, “Are you alright, Ray?”
Rubbing his now sore behind, Ray laughed, “Ya, I’m fine. Embarrassed, but fine I guess. I should have said, ‘ya it will be wonderful to meet everyone.’ That karma is a bitch, huh.”
Holding out a hand to help Ray up, Ben replied, “It was nothing to do with karma Ray, you simply lost your balance.”
Shaking his head and taking Ben’s hand, Ray answered, “Yes it was Ben, karma hates me.”
Looking at Ray, Ben replied, “No it wasn’t.”
Ray smiled. “Was,” he said.
Ben went to open his mouth to reply once more when he saw the teasing glint in Ray’s eye. Shaking his head Ben laughed, “We really should leave, or we will be late.”
Giving Ben a quick kiss on the cheek Ray said, “You love it when we banter like that, admit it.”
With a glint of his own in his eye, Ben replied, taking Ray’s hand in his, “Yes I do, Ray.”
The party was in full swing, some were dressed in fancy dress, but everyone wore a party hat of some kind, making it fun and colourful.
Dewey joined Ben, Ray, Ray and Frannie at the table they were sitting at. He noticed that Ben was drinking an actual beer, so he asked, “Wow Fraser, I didn’t know you could drink, since when?”
Smiling at a tipsy Dewey, Fraser replied, “Only on special occasions, Detective.”
Slapping Fraser on the back Dewey said, “That’s good, that’s good. So, you guys make any New Year’s resolutions?”
Ray Vecchio went first, “Ya, not to let Benny ruin anymore of my cars, or suits.”
Ben went to reply, but realised it was a joke and stopped.
Frannie then gave her answer. “I’m gonna finally sign up for the Academy and not let the hat thing put me off.”
Dewey gestured to Fraser. “What about you Fraser, what’s yours?”
Ben held his gaze as he answered. “Yes I have one, I’m not going to let fear stop me from achieving what I truly want out of life.”
Dewey sat back saying, “Man, that is a good one. So what about you Raykay?”
Chuckling at his new nickname, Ray replied, “The same. It’s a good one, so ya, what Fraser said.”
There were ten seconds to go until the ball dropped and the New Year began. The countdown was on…10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Happy New Year!
With an unspoken word, Ben and Ray kissed right there on the dance floor. They didn’t care who saw, they were going for what they truly wanted out of life and what they wanted was each other and to show everyone the love they had for each other.
Resolution complete.
