GONE

Initially, pain from a still-healing back limited his sleep. Not until that subsided did the other crowd in. The stillness of the cavern provided little distraction, just as LanQiRen intended. Here, LanZhan was supposed to consider the error of his ways, and repent.

Waking hours were simple enough to fill. Once his body recovered he took exercise, played the qin, eventually even managed contemplation. But the sleeping mind was beyond his control, flooding his dreams with a bright smiling face; with uninhibited laughter, now lost forever. Then he would awake, and the nightmare of his hollow existence would begin again.
