"What's this I hear about you and Umi last night?"

Clef blinked at the memorandum from the Clerks he was reading, and looked up at Ferio in the doorway. It took a moment to parse the words, focused as he was on trying to work out what it was this memorandum was actually objecting to.

He wasn't sure what Ferio was talking about, either. Possibly he needed to sleep instead of drinking another pot of tea. "I don't know?" Surely there must be another document somewhere in the piles which gave this one some context.

Ferio raised an eyebrow at him. "There's a rumour going around that you were in the baths together."

"Oh, yeah, we were." Setting the memo to the side, he started leafing through the pile of things he hadn't looked at yet - only to realise, somewhat belatedly, that Ferio had gone very, very quiet. "What?"

"You were in the baths together?"

"Yes? I mean, how else was I going to work out what she'd done so I could fix them?"

"Wait." Ferio stared at him. "Fix them? Umi broke the baths?"

"Why else would we have been-" Clef started, then froze, his head shooting up as he caught on, finally, to what these rumours were actually about. "No! We weren't-"

Ferio looked at him, and then started to laugh. "I should have guessed 'Umi broke something' was the explanation," he got out. "What did she do?"

"Tried to make the water pressure reverse, for obscure reasons, because obviously a public feature is the best thing to experiment with." Clef rubbed his hands over his face. "I didn't even think…" He was so used to being in a child's form that the implications of having grown were still sneaking up on him, nearly a year later.

Waving a hand, Ferio opened the door again to leave, apparently happy now he knew what had happened. "Maybe think things through next time."

"There won't be a next time!" Clef protested.

Ferio laughed again. "I bet there will, Umi's bound to find something else interesting to break" he said, and left Clef alone to fret.
