She yipped with laughter as she splashed through the puddle. Rain puddles were not something she normally took the time to care anything about when she was under the full moon, but tonight was not a night for the hunt. There was nothing she had to do tonight, only what she wanted to do, and that she could do until the sun rose and even beyond. She laughed, her eyes dancing with mirth, and her mate reached over and kissed her furry cheek with his dark nose.

She rubbed her head against his and then looked at their reflection in the puddle's murky water. He was so big, so handsome, the perfect male specimen, in her eyes, of both wolf and human. She had to wonder how she'd ever become lucky enough for him to belong to her, but he did. He belonged to her just as surely as she did to him. They were each other's, and they had been made for one another. There was no doubt of that in her mind, or of his love for her.

The wind whistled through the branches of the tall, dark trees behind him. There was great danger beyond the forest, but they did not have to step one paw out that way. They never had to leave this place. This was their territory, their home, and they never had to move again. They were safe here. Here they could frolic every night, do what they must as humans during the day, and eventually even raise their own litter of cubs.

She looked forward to those days and nights when they'd have a whole family out here, but she wasn't rushing them. For now, she had Peter all to herself, and that was more than enough to keep her happy. He was more than enough to make her happy. He nipped her suddenly, and she stopped laughing to shove her nose playfully against the side of his face. He slid sideways and stumbled some more, unable to get solid footing on the mud. She moved to help him, but he darted forward, nipped her again, and then shot, laughing, off into the trees.

She laughed and followed him as fast as her paws could go. She caught him quickly and very gently nipped the end of his bushy tail. He turned and darted after her, but she took off in the opposite direction, running back in the direction from whence they had just come and splashing mud and water onto his handsome fur coat. He caught her, and she turned and chased him again. Back and forth, they went running circles through their forest until they collapsed together into a pile of fur, sweat, exhaustion, and merriment.

Their laughter seemed to rise to the moon, who she liked to imagine winked back down at them in return as it twinkled. The moon was an ancient and kind spirit, and she knew that it had to like watching over them for they were so full of joy and love. She felt Peter shift beneath her, so she followed suit. She just laid there in his arms after she'd returned to her fleshly form, relishing the feel of his body wrapped all around hers and their hearts beating as one.

"Never leave me, Red," he whispered in his gruff voice, kissing the top of her dark head.

She rolled over on top of him, bracing her palms in the mud at either side of his head. "I will never leave you, Peter," she vowed, "and if you ever try to leave me, I'll hunt you down and -- "

"And do what?" he asked, flashing her a broad, teasing grin. She angled her head for his neck. "Bite me?"

"Oh, I'll do much more than that," she murmured, nibbling his throat. Her left hand found his shaft and stroked its long, mighty length. "I'll make sure," she declared, wrapping her fingers tightly around his cock and squeezing lightly, "that you know you're mine." Knowing they'd once had a dominance problem, she added, "Just as I am yours."

He tightened his hold on her as she squeezed him again. "I'll never forget that," he murmured into her soft hair, "for as long as I live."

"Hey!" he exclaimed as she bit him extra hard.

She thrust up against him and looked down into his adorable, dark brown eyes. "You'd better not."

He stroked her face and pressed his palm against her smiling lips. "I promise I won't. I couldn't even if I wanted to. And why would I want to, how could I, when I have the most beautiful creature of all as my mate?"

Her breath caught. She still couldn't believe he could look at her like that. Smiling, she recovered herself and shook her head. "Nah," she said, tossing her hair, "that's you."

Growling lustfully, he rolled her onto her back in the mud. "No, Red, it's you, and I'm the lucky one." He hushed her protests with passionate kisses as he thrust inside of her, but Red knew the truth. She was the lucky one. She was the blessed with all belief, because she had him.

She awoke the next day to a bird's song. She could not remember how they had made it back to the cabin he'd built with his own hands for them, but they had. He slept beside her, snoring loudly. She beamed as she watched him sleep and tenderly stroked the hair out of his eyes. There was her baby, her husband, her soul mate for all time. She would never leave him or forget how lucky she was to have him or that she was his, and she knew he would never abandon her.

People could say what they wanted about them. Tongues would always wag, after all, but people didn't matter. They were part of the reason why they had escaped out here deep into the forest, but here they were alone together and no one and nothing could touch them. Nothing could bother them. They were alone, and they were perfect together and in love.

She laid beside him and pulled him back into her arms. She didn't miss town, not one little bit. She didn't miss any one. She had everything she could ever need right here beside her, right here in her very arms. She beamed as she kissed him, nuzzling him and waking him just enough that they could make love again. They had their happily ever after right here with each other, and they would never, ever let go.

The End
