On pipe or harp or string
A jaunty one, to banish fear
That we may dance and sing

Will you play a song, my son
To warm the days of spring
Send winter's ills to swiftly run
Let buds and leaves now cling

Will you play a march, good sir
Let drum and trumpet ring
Make courage rouse and hearts to stir
What e're the dawn might bring

Will you play a dirge, my lord
Slow toll the bell, let wing
The keen of woe and mournful chord:
For fallen is our King
