Lying awake in the dimness of Dee’s bedroom, Ryo wondered why he’d ever worried so much. He’d spent so much of his life in denial, trying to ignore his attraction to men, dating girls, insisting that he was straight, practically panicking whenever he found his thoughts wandering to toned chests and muscular arms. He’d convinced himself that if he just tried hard enough he could be ‘normal’; now he wondered why that had mattered so much to him.

Because now he knew he was indeed normal, a perfectly normal gay man who found the male physique much more attractive than a woman’s soft curves. There was nothing wrong with him, he had nothing to be ashamed of; he was exactly the way he was meant to be. Really, he’d been an idiot putting so much time and effort into the pointless task of trying to change something as basic as his sexuality. It couldn’t be done. He’d gone round and round in circles, never getting anywhere, and all he’d done was make himself… not exactly unhappy, but certainly dissatisfied with his life. He’d known something was missing, but consumed by his foolish quest for ‘normality’, he’d been unable to figure out what.

Well, now he knew.

He was lucky he’d met Dee, found someone who’d seen right through his self--deceit to the unalterable truth beneath, someone who’d been willing to help him accept that truth about himself.

It hadn’t been an easy journey, denial was a powerful force, and his own fears had gotten in the way, although now he could at last see they’d been completely groundless.

Dee stirred beside him, arms tightening around him, pulling him closer, and Ryo couldn’t help but smile; he wasn’t afraid anymore. Here within the circle of Dee’s arms, everything finally made sense.

The End

I love this! That last line especially is so perfect for any two people in love, but the rest of it is a perfect message that every gay person really needs to read. <3 And not just the gays for that matter, but all those people hating on love. So well done, my friend!!!

Thank you, glad it resonated. There is far too much hate in the world; love should be all that matters, and it should be celebrated wherever it's found.
