“You should end it,” Noël says, leaning against the frame of Kairi’s bedroom door. Kairi doesn’t even look up. “Whatever this is, if it were to continue, you would have to tell him the truth.”

“Mind your own business, Noël,” Kairi says, still not looking up, eyes fixed determinedly on the book open in his hand. He isn’t reading, though, Noël can tell. No obvious flick of the eyes as he scans words, just his gaze unmoving on the page so he doesn’t have to look up at Noël.

Noël sighs and straightens up, crossing his arms over his chest and stepping into the room. That makes Kairi look up, eyes narrowing in a glare. Noël doesn’t back down. “I work with both of you,” he says, “that makes it my business.”

Kairi shuts the book with a quiet thud and drops it on his bed, stands, and steps in close to Noël, almost toe to toe, holding his gaze. “It’s not,” he says, grits it out through clenched teeth. “It’s no one’s business but ours.” He pushes past Noël, their shoulders brushing, and disappears down the hall.

Noël surveys the sparsely furnished room for a moment before he follows.

He’ll let the argument rest for now, but he can’t leave it forever. Kairi either needs to end whatever has sprung up between himself and Keiichirou or tell Keiichirou that he is Lupin Red.

And the latter is not an option.
