There's nothing left, except this almost numbness, where everything hurts and there's nothing left but pain.

There had been this life, this hope -- inside her. Then, in an instant -- gone. All gone. Forever.

Words whispered with best intentions, "It wasn't meant to be," cut sharp and deep. Just more pain.

Foolish. Why had she thought this was something she could have? Something she could keep?

Time off from work gives her more time with her circling thoughts, but at least it keeps her away from the pity in their eyes.
