Summary: Two poems, reflecting

Green loop of a wave

Where green wave rises, swells,
Breaks forth in foam on sand and shale
Where sky and water meet in mist
In salt-spray air silvered by the moon
Earth and air and sea all mingle
In singing caves of wet wave eaten rock
Tide pools linger, tickling and tumbling
Sea shells and sand-stars, sun-sparkle-shine
Lies the Straight Road from the bent world
Under what sky? Over what sea?

White cloudscape with black silhouette foreground

All fire, color, stript
From over head and under foot
The brilliance of the sun not gold
But glare, white brightness
Behind black cut-out shapes
Paper mountains, obdurate yet.

And yet, and yet,
The memory of flame, of hue
Indelible remains.
