Photographer notes: I don't know if it was intentional, but with 'street' coming up the week of International Homeless Day, this seemed appropriate. First try at nighttime photography and not what I'm used to, but I learned a lot from it.

The weather is pretty mild at the moment for October, but these are three places at the back of the street where I volunteer that I found people sleeping rough or homeless and sheltering from rain and snow last winter. The buildings on the street are mostly offices with normal hours, and ours is the only place open late, but all we can do after 10pm is take hot drinks and packets of biscuits out and hope they can get in at shelters when we direct them.

The last photo is a little wonky, but it was the best of the set for that location so I went with it.

Thank you! It was surprisingly hard to get decent photos in those conditions either with manual settings or the presets, I think more experimentation is needed to really crack it :)

That first photo does not look like much protection from the weather. :(

Great response to the challenge, and thank you!

It's a *little* more sheltered than it looks (though not much), but it's a full L shaped turn off from the street with no doors accessing it, so it's quiet and fairly private for a good 10 hours or so at a stretch. The man I met there was making good use of the bars to rig up a makeshift tent, but it definitely wouldn't be my first choice :(

The second one is the back of our building, so there's tea and coffee on tap, but we do come and go at all hours from the car park so the light is always going on!
