Happy!: Fanfic: Fated

  • Jul. 14th, 2019 at 12:27 PM
Title: Fated
Fandom: Happy! (Netflix)
Rating: PG-13
Warning: non-graphic mentions of violence and killing
Length: 543 words
Pairing: Happy/Nick
Summary: Happy contemplates his complicated partnership with Nick.

Nick and Happy have an unconventional partnership to be sure, but that just makes what they have for each other even more special. A yarn to tell around a campfire, or at bedtime, but only if you didn't mind nightmares that end on a happy (no pun intended) note. Maybe.
Nick is not a very pleasant man, and he has something of a dark, violent past (not that Happy's complaining about that). Happy's own story (pre-Nick) is rainbows and glitter and love of the purest kind, but that's what's to be expected when you're the imaginary friend of wonderful little girl like Hailey. She's the best little girl in the whole wide world, and Happy would do anything for her, even now that she no longer needs him because she has her father, Nick (a real bonafide hero), in her life.
Happy's from Zork the capital of Cupcake Kingdom, and Nick's from the Big Apple (Happy's not going to stop saying that just because Nick says that isn't what people from New York really call it). They are, in a word (or a phrase if you want to be technical) worlds apart, and yet, here they are, together. It’s something of a miracle from Happy’s perspective. Not that he considers the horrible, terrible, no good things that happened to Hailey to be miraculous, but he does consider      Nick’s (a grownup in many, many senses of the word) ability to see him and believe in him to be a miracle.
Happy supposes that it's true that opposites attract. Nick is dark and dangerous, and Happy’s awesome-sauce and rainbow love. They need each other to balance out Nick’s dark, darkness and the intense awesomeness that is Happy.
Happy can't deny that, though Nick brings chaos and violence with him wherever he goes (he's a magnet for all the bad stuff that the universe could possibly throw at someone) like Amanda said during their not so happy reunion, he does get the job done. In a gruesome, horrible, killing fashion (Nick is great at killing).
No matter how much Nick complains that Happy gets on his nerves and is annoying, Happy knows that without him, Nick would be completely without hope. Without love.
Nick sees all the darkness and hate in people, while Happy sees all the goodness and light in mankind. Nick is the yin to Happy's yang and vice versa. In short, they need each other (no matter what Nick says to the contrary) and they were meant to be together. Fates conspiring and all that good fluffiness.
It's like Hailey conjured Happy for this purpose, to be her father's guide, conscience, light and love. A purpose that Happy cannot and will not refuse, no matter how many times Nick tries to push Happy out of his life.
Happy will gladly kill for Nick (he's done it before). He knows that Nick will kill for him. He is really good at killing. It's a little messy for Happy, but if it needs to be done, Happy will do it.
It's Fate, Happy and Nick. Together. Forever. Simple as that.
Besides, Nick needs Happy more than ever now. He needs Happy to help him navigate the world of his daughter, the precious, wonderful Hailey Hansen.
