Fingertips pressed softly against the hard shaft. They drew up and down its length. It was full of new promise, ready and almost quivering to be used for the first time. The fingers travelled the instrument’s whole length three more times before lifting it and placing its head thoughtfully against full, wet lips. There was so much promise in this one thing, so many wonderful ways it could be used, so much it could create . . . The lips closed around its top. She thought a moment longer, then removed the pencil from her mouth and set its point to creating words.
