Restraint : Ace Attorney : Fic : Redeye

  • Mar. 2nd, 2019 at 1:52 AM
Title: Redeye
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Length: 320
Rating: PG
Content Notes: Vague, brief mentions of injury.
Characters/Ships: Miles Edgeworth/Phoenix Wright
Author's Note: Spoilers for AA3, I suppose. A fill for 'Suitcase' on my Bingo card as well.
Summary: Private jets can only go so fast.

Edgeworth paced the length of the small jet’s cabin, heedless of the turbulence and the silly flight attendant who thought that it might be advisable for him to sit down.

Sit down. How could he--how could he possibly be expected to do that? Edgeworth wasn’t a man of science, particularly, but he’d read about Newton, about objects in motion remaining in motion. And some baby-faced, razor-nicked boy with a winged lapel pin was no opposite force, not ever but especially not that day.

Not when... ugh. The phone call played on loop in Edgeworth’s head, no matter how heavy his steps, how loudly his heart punched in his chest. Wright in trouble again. Bridge river gorge, paramedic siren emergency. Shattered intensive internal in time.

He’d banged his fist on the desk, vomited clothes into a suitcase, leveraged to its full extent his ability to shout into a phone and make things happen. Copenhagen to LAX, with bells on. Hell, he’d called that insufferable flight attendant out of bed.

It hadn’t even been a question to him, that he had to be there. That he would cross that ocean, those time zones, those great sprawling ranges of mountains if he had to run them like a damn triathlon. That he had to, as soon as was humanly possible, storm into that hospital room and kneel beside that bed. Clasp those cold hands in his own, graze his fingers by the patch that kept the IV in. He would maul himself for parts if he had to, to put Wright back together.

Back in his office, when sweaty fingers had slammed his desk phone home, he’d been overwhelmed by it. Resonant like a gong, gouging like his heart hadn't eaten for days.

But he couldn’t argue a jet engine into going faster. Couldn’t threaten fuel with a pay cut.

All that he could do was pace, and curl his fists, and wait.

Ah, I really like this! You captured the emotions of it so well, it really feels so intense! Poor Phoenix AND Poor Edgeworth through this entire case honestly :(
