He was sure his dad knew. He did it all the time. Well, not all the time. But a lot.

Frequently.

He would slip downstairs when he was supposed to be asleep and watch.

And his dad knew.

He knew he knew. It was okay. It was the only way to hear his dad play more often. Until he was old enough to go to the clubs on his own.

He would sit on the stairs, hiding behind the railings, watching and listening as his dad practiced. Then, when he was done, creeping back upstairs and slipping into bed. Unnoticed.
