Summary: Thoughts on orcs



There are orcs that are born, have progenitors, even parents; that grew from infancy to adulthood, are in turn capable of bearing or begetting others of their kind. They are not brought murderous into the world: they must be taught, trained, shaped and brutalized into it. They are, however twisted, people.

There are orcs that are made, assembled, seeded, grown like cysts in poisoned, fervid earth, unfathered but by the will of the overseer who caused their production, unmothered by anything at all. They come forth empty-eyed and murderous, their volition only the Master’s anger, hunger, rage. They are not people.
