Artist notes: I tried my hand at making five icons in an hour. I think it shows, but not too badly.

For my one-hour project, I chose the crops ahead of time but otherwise did nothing to the images before starting the timer. I gave myself ten minutes for each icon, and the last ten minutes to panic and try to fix things.

It really made me notice my first responses in making icons: isolate the main subject, fix coloring and color saturation, resize the image, and add lighting. That worked really well for some of them. I ended up slapping some additional layers on to disguise Prim's dress in #3 and the blown-out background in #4. If I had more time, I would've started over on #4, since I think a different direction would have been (much) better than this one. But the timer was ticking down!

I know I said five icons, but I couldn't make up my mind between #5 and #6. I like the more natural look of #5, but I also like the dramatic lighting/grunge of #6. With the subject matter of the film, I think going for a more grunge-y set might work incredibly well -- but not in one hour.
