Summary: Sara gets a visitor who allows her to share memories of the past and plans for the future.


Sara was lying on the bed, crying. Her father had taken her to Laurel's grave earlier that day. She just couldn't believe her sister was gone. Her friends left messages offering their condolences, but she ignored them. A knock on the door interrupted her grieving.

Voice filled with tears she called out, "Go away. I need to be alone."

"Sara."

Sara froze. That voice belonged to someone other than her father. The last time she heard it, it was telling her to leave its owner behind. Every day since she has been longing to see her again.

Sara sniffled, "Come in."

Nyssa walked in and sat on the bed next to Sara, silently supporting her. She knew Sara would talk when she was ready.

Sara took comfort in Nyssa's presence. When she had enough, she sat up. "When I was first questioning the time traveling mission, Laurel told me to go. I had lived in the shadows long enough and it was time I became a hero. I don't know how to do that without her."

Nyssa put a hand on Sara's knee. "After you died, Laurel and I shared a bond. She taught me there was more to life than the League. I disbanded it when I finally received my father's ring."

Sara gave Nyssa a smile filled with love, "I'm proud of you."

Nyssa returned her smile, "Laurel may have shown us the path of light, but it is on us to learn how to walk it. The first step is to accept her death. She would not want you to mourn her forever."

Sara's smile dimmed as some of her sadness returned. "Thank you. She wasn't the only one to show me I could be a hero. A team member... Leonard... He talked me out of killing another team member. Recently, he sacrificed himself to save us and the world." Sara took Nyssa's hand that was on her knee and held it with her own, interlocking their fingers. "I don't want to lose anyone else I care about. I'm still in love with you. We've been separated too many times. I can't lose you again. We can go back to the Waverider together."

Nyssa raised her free hand to caress Sara's cheek, "I will always be in love with you. You are the love of my life. My Beloved. I let you go because I thought I kept you shrouded in darkness. I now realize that I, too, can walk the path of light. I would be delighted to walk that path with you, wherever it may take us."

Both Nyssa and Sara leaned into a kiss where they gave each other their love and accepted the other's in return, promising to always be together until the end.
