We hope these badges will inspire you to create more work and different kinds of work, to take risks and to be productive. We encourage you to enter into the spirit of the badges as spurs to creativity and exploration and to produce new works to earn new badges.
Tracking your progress will be up to you. When you think you qualify for one or more of these badges, please let us know by contacting us here or by email at fanflashworks at gmail. We'll verify your eligibility and give you the go-ahead to claim the badge as your own.
Once you've earned a badge, you can post it wherever you like: in your userinfo, in posts on your journal or on another website. Go ahead and hotlink if you want! (See the bottom of this post for more detailed instructions if you need them!)
Thanks so much to
ponderosa and
hardboiledbaby (and
storyfan and
bghost) for suggesting this idea to us in the first place! We are always interested in your suggestions for adding to or improving these.
PLEASE NOTE: This section is under construction! If you have any suggestions for additional challenges for writing, vidding, podficcing or fanmixing, we would love to hear them! We would also love to have sections for art and other media, so if you have any ideas for challenges in those areas, please leave them, too! We may not be able to use every suggestion, but we're grateful for all of them. If you prefer to send them privately, our email address is fanflashworks at gmail.
More detailed image-linking instructions:
Once you've been mod-approved to take a badge, here's what you do:
1. Right-click on the image of the badge you've earned. You should see something like "Copy Image URL" or "Copy Image Link". Choose that.
2. If you are posting the badge on Tumblr, choose to post a photo and then to "use URL". Paste in the link you copied above.
3. If you are putting the image in your LJ or DW userinfo or in a post on LJ or DW, copy the line below, pasting it where you want the image to appear:
<img src="IMAGE LINK GOES HERE" alt="NAME OF BADGE.">
(Make sure you change IMAGE LINK GOES HERE to the link you got in step
one, and NAME OF BADGE to the name of the badge, leaving the quotation
marks and periods in place. The alt text makes your badge visible to
people who use screenreaders or other tools for the visually
impaired.)

| Advanced Badges | |

Hardcore Finisher To make things more interesting, you can choose to play in Hardcore Mode. This means that each badge from the Skills Training section must be earned independently of the others. So if you've used a work toward earning your Sci-Fi badge, you can't also use it toward earning your AU badge, even if it is an AU. If you earn 6 Skills Training Badges while playing in Hardcore Mode, you win the crown, as well as the right to brag about your superior badassery forever and ever, until your friends ignore you in chat and refuse to take your calls. (This is only an optional, extra-sadistic way to play, of course -- in Normal Mode, you can use works toward whichever badges they fit, regardless of other badges you may have also applied them to.) |
![]() |
Extreme Hardcore Finisher If you've earned the Hardcore Finisher crown and want to take your bragging rights to the loftiest level we here at FanFlashworks have yet to imagine, you can now strive to obtain the EXTREME Hardcore Finisher Crown. To get it, you must first earn the original Hardcore Finisher Crown, then go on to Level Up those 6 Skills Training Badges OR earn 6 new Skills Training Badges OR earn a combined total of 6 Levelled Up and new Skills Training Badges, all while working in Hardcore Mode. As always, you'll need to keep track of your progress yourself -- we don't record your previously earned badges. |
![]() |
Challenge mode: Medalling Up. If you double your output for any badge in the Skills Training, Miscellaneous or SBIGTTS sections, you earn the Silver Medal version of that badge. Check out the badge on the left for an example. (Be sure to claim the original version of the badge before you medal up!) |
![]() |
Triple the output for any Miscellaneous, Skills Training or SBIGTTS badge and you earn the Gold Medal version. As always, to earn the badge, you'll need to let us know when you think you've met these requirements. |

The Wayfarer For participants who are looking for a complex challenge, The Wayfarer is an advanced badge which can only be earned by collecting a variety of other badges and meeting several additional requirements. Here's a worksheet to help you track your progress as you're working on this one. You can download the worksheet or copy it to your own google drive to fill it out, then link us to the finished product when you are ready to claim the badge. (Many thanks to |
