Title: Easier to Predict Than the Weather

Word Count: 363

Rating: T

Pairing: Danny/Steve

Notes: AU in which Danny is a newscaster and Steve is a weatherman; fluff with a chance of cuddles

Summary: Danny’s moods are easier to predict than the weather.

"Isn't forecasting just a fancy word for making predictions?" Danny asks in a voice that's far too casual to be considered anything other than a provocation.

Steve considers the pattern on their bed sheets before answering, knowing that whatever he says will be fuel for whatever it is that Danny's got stuck in his craw. He's not ready for a Sunday morning tussle, unless it's another round in their maritime themed sheets.

"There's a lot of science that goes into the forecasting of weather," Steve says. He should know. He went to school for it and everything. Not that Danny's going to concede whatever point it is he's building up to making.

Danny laughs and shakes his head, twists so that he's propped up by an elbow and facing Steve. "Science," he says in a dry tone. "Last I checked, science and the art of making predictions were not synonymous enterprises."

Sighing, Steve rolls his eyes, realizing what it is that Danny's getting at, what's really vexing his lover. "Look, how many times do I have to tell you I'm sorry that Grace's birthday party was rained out?"

"You predicted sunny weather," Danny says, mulish. "So we planned around that, and what happened?"

"It rained," Steve says, groaning. "The prediction of weather is not an exact science. How was I supposed to know that an unpredictable storm front was on the way?"

Danny's lips quirk slightly and he pokes Steve in the chest. "Unpredictable. See, here's what I think, I think that all you weathermen just --"

Steve grabs Danny's finger and crushes Danny's mouth with his own, stopping Danny before he can truly start on another rant about how weathermen are really devils in disguise and how they are hellbent on ruining perfectly good events like his little girl's eighth birthday party. There may be certain events in the weather that not even a seasoned weatherman like himself can predict, such as a fast moving storm-front coming out of nowhere, but he does know how to predict what's going to happen when his lover gets into a tizzy about something. It's a good thing that he knows how to counter that particular storm-front.
