No Fandom: Texture Set: Atlantic Surf

  • Jul. 17th, 2018 at 12:36 PM
Title: Atlantic Surf Texture Set
Fandom: None (or the Florida coast)
Rating/Warning: G. Large image linked under the cut.
Summary: Twenty-four icon-sized textures and one large texture.
Content Notes: Ocean-inspired textures for use in making icons and wallpapers. Created with my own photos of fabrics and the surf breaking on Florida's Atlantic coast.
Artist Notes: This texture set is sort of an homage to A1A, the beachside highway that runs the length of Florida's east coast. It's a beautiful place with a unique culture all its own, and one thing about Florida that I do miss.

Hey, I'm sorry, but the comm rules require a work to be posted at the comm only for the round. You can't post it at DA and link it here.

Please edit this post with some or all of the texture images themselves and take it down at DA until the end of the round.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

I've done as you ask, but I have to say I very much disagree with this application of the rule. As I see it, DeviantArt is a hosting space for the textures, the same as a podfic or fanart image has to be physically hosted on another site. And since my main place for storing textures is DA, having to upload them elsewhere means having them take up space in two different places.

Thank you for adding the images to this post.

I'll talk to [personal profile] china_shop about your points and get back to you. We don't want to be unfair about the application of the rule.

Thanks for considering the matter. :)

(And apologies if I came across rather cranky. Among other things, I've been sick with a migraine for two days.)

You didn't sound cranky at all! (So sorry to hear about the migraine!)

I spoke with [personal profile] china_shop. In the future, you are welcome to host the files at Deviantart. But we do need to be able to see the individual images in the post, not just the cover art and a download link.

I know that we let people link to external sites for fanmixes and podfic, but that's only because Dreamwidth won't display them properly. We ask people to embed text, images, gifs, and fanvids, since DW will display them.

If it's possible to make the Deviantart page private, or unsearchable, that would be preferable for the length of the round. (I'm not familiar enough with DA to know if that's an option, but some other image hosting sites allow it, and we generally request that people do so if they can.)

Let me know if that makes sense to you, or if you have any questions. We really do want to make these rules fair and workable for everyone!

(You don't need to respond right away, especially if you're still having the migraine -- glowing screens always make mine worse)

Well, that's not going to work. The way DeviantArt is set up, grouped images like textures need to be packaged together in a zip/archive file, with a preview image to show an example of the contents. I can't upload two dozen icon-sized images there individually. (At least not without putting every single one on a separate page, which would obviously be ridiculous.) I also don't know of any way to screen works on DA.

So I guess the only choice is still to leave all of the separate textures uploaded in a second place, solely for FFW. I may look at some other options besides my paid webspace for that, as I'm not sure what I may want to do with my website in the future. (Which is one reason I wanted to link to the textures on my DA account. That would stay in place even if I move my webspace content later on--but oh well.)

Anyway, thanks. I did finally recover from the migraine.

I'm sorry that won't work with DeviantArt. I use Imgur for basic image hosting -- they're free and have been pretty stable for the last few years.
