Summary: Toad wants to take a walk with Frog, but can’t because he does not have his hat.
Author’s Note: Part of the charm of Frog and Toad is the illustrations and I’ve attempted one.


Toad woke up and yawned.
“Today I will see Frog and go for a walk,” said Toad.
Toad got out of bed and began getting dressed.
He put on his pants.
He put on his jacket.
He tried to put something on top of his head, but could not remember what it should be.
“Now I cannot go to Frogs because I don’t have something on my head,” said Toad.
Toad sat on his bed and tried to remember what to wear on his head.

“Toad, Toad, are you home?” asked Frog.
“Yes, Frog. I cannot go for a walk today,” said Toad sadly. “I do not have something on my head.”
“What do you wear on your head?” asked Frog.
“I do not remember,” said Toad.
Frog found a towel and put it on Toad’s head.

“I do not wear a towel on my head. What I wear on my head is more upright,” said Toad.
Frog took off the towel.
He found a square box and put it on Toad’s head.
“I do not wear a box on my head. What I wear on my head is more round,” said Toad.
Frog took off the box.
He went into the kitchen and found a bowl.
He put the bowl on Toad’s head.
“Frog, I do not wear a bowl. What I wear on my head is soft like a towel, upright like a box, and circular like a bowl,” said Toad. “But it is not a towel, or a box, or a bowl.”
Frog sat next to Toad and felt sad that his friend could not go for a walk.

Frog thought.
“Toad, I need to go home,” said Frog.
Frog left and went home.
At home, Frog found something that was soft like a towel, upright like a box, and circular like a bowl.
He brought it to Toad.
“Toad, Toad, I found something that is soft like a towel, upright like a box, and circular like a bowl,” cried Frog. “It is your hat. You forgot it at my house.”
Toad put the hat on top of his head.
“Now we can go for a walk,” said Toad.
Frog and Toad went for a walk. It was a beautiful day.
