“Have you ever been in love?” Delphine asks while you are lying in bed together, naked.

An image of James Gasciogne comes to your mind. But, you never loved him. You and he were only friends, sleeping together to blow off steam. To have a physical connection between isolated worlds. After all, these relationships aren’t real.

You are brought back to the present when Delphine continues her thought. “I think that love is the only thing worth living for or dying for.”

Her silent admission strikes a chord in your heart, and you admit to yourself that you love her too. However, this job is dangerous. You and her both know this job will get you both killed one day. It might be soon, here in Berlin. You were made from the moment your feet touched the ground, and this is Delphine's first assignment. Percival took advantage of her innocence and naivety and set you both up. But you won’t let any harm come to her and at least she, if not both of you, needs to survive Berlin. As you lie here, with her head on your shoulder and your hand running through her hair, you come to realize that you wouldn’t be able to live without her. But, you can’t tell her that.

“I’m not afraid of love.”

Delphine sits up to look you in the eyes. “Then what are you afraid of?”

“Losing it.”

Delphine smiles, and she looks like she’s about to cry. “When you tell the truth, you look different.” She chuckles a bit, “Your eyes change.”

“Thanks for the warning.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I better not do that again.”

“Why?”

You think back to all of your previous missions. One slip up could have cost everything. In this job, relationships don’t exist lest the enemy finds a weakness and exploits it.

“Cause it’s going to get me killed one day.”
