Henry looked into the face of the scared girl in front of him. His skin still vaguely carried the tang of iron and leather as he stood before her, not knowing what to say.

This was supposed to be the prize and he was supposed to display honour here. Yet he felt that the only purpose to which he could put his words was warfare; like his tongue had become a deadly weapon, fit only to slice things to pieces instead of knitting them together.

They would marry no matter what he said, but he wished it were not so.
